In 1888, at the age of 25, Ernst Hilker founded a carpentry shop and began manufacturing furniture in the city of Detmold, North Rhine-Westphalia. The company began series production of furniture as early as 1900 – as the first in the East Westphalia region. That was a pioneering achievement.
